"Big Music in the Movies" presentation
Got your Oscar picks yet for 2020? How about Best
Score? I can help you there. Come to the historical
Naro Expanded Cinema and discover the movies'
greatest secrets. Did you know that when George Lucas
was directing Star Wars in 1977, he needed something
new for his theme music? John Williams gave it to him:
a style taken from…. an opera written in 1869! His
trick resulted in one of the most popular and important
film scores every written. Come discover connections
I have revealed between movie music and Romantic-era
music and the effect it has on you when you go to the
movies. Experience the second revolution in film
scoring. It will change the way you watch movies
forever!

"50 Years of Broadway: Hair to Hamilton" presentation
A fast and fun history of the last half-century of musical
theater. In 1968, Hair revolutionized Broadway with an
infusion of undiluted pop culture. From bust to boom,
from the British invasion to jukebox musicals, we’ll look
at how musicals both lead the history of popular music…
and adopt every one of its greatest innovations. Loaded
with rare video and audio clips. Be sure to say, “I’m not
throwing away my shot!”

"Chamber Music 101" presentation
When three or four are gathered in the name of music...
Chamber music can be far more intimate and personal
than a concert by a big orchestra, but it can also be just
as dramatic! But where did string quartets get their
start? Why is a Stradivarius so expensive? Who came
up with the four-movement thing? And more
importantly, what should I wear to the concert? (And
when should I applaud?) A flashy and fun
presentation that makes concert going simple again.
Great for fans, and perfect for newcomers—bring
someone to share this with! Additional Notes: The
course fee includes a free ticket to any of the concerts
by world-renowned ensembles in the Feldman
Chamber Music Society
series, which presents six
concerts annually in Norfolk, featuring many of the
most celebrated chamber ensembles in the world.
